On Sunday, February 7th at 6:00 pm, the Root Radical Lending Library is excited to present Penny Rosenwasser, author of Hope into Practice: Jewish Women Choosing Justice Despite our Fears. Hope into Practice is a book for everyone, and deals with human liberation, linking personal healing with activism for justice. Anchored in Jewish ethical tradition and community-building, it includes a fair-minded perspective on Israel-Palestine. The book is an activist’s call to repair the world! Everyone is welcome at this event, and especially those involved in social justice work! The Root is wheelchair accessible; please come scent-free to this event.

Come get involved in this newly forming group! We'll be meeting the 3rd Monday of the month starting January 18th at 7pm at The Root. Feel free to come to all or just one meeting.
Open to adults and mature readers interested in discussing ways that power and privilege impact us both personally and in our various communities. Books, specifically contemporary literary fiction and memoir, provide readers with lenses through which to see the world through experiences which may be very different from our own. In this reading group we will use the shared experience of literary works to open generative critical dialog about power and privilege as they impact our individual lives and our many communities. Our first book will be Americanah, "A powerful, tender story of race and identity by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the award-winning author of Half of a Yellow Sun." Copies of Americanah can be purchased through Everyone's Books. Or, visit your local library! Would you like to help get our Seed Library organized and up and running for the Spring 2016 growing season?? Come to the next Root Radical Lending LIbrary New Volunteer Orientation to learn about the library, and what we do, and why it's fun! You'll get to hear about our exciting programs and services, including the Seed Library, the Zine Library, and the newly forming Social Justice Book Group. Also, come with your own library ideas for projects that excite you! If you can imagine it, we can probably do it! The orientation is on Monday, January 25th, 6:30-8:00pm. The Root is wheelchair accessible. Please come fragrance free to this event. RSVP below, or check out the Facebook event announcement! Or just show up! On Friday evening, November 6, at 6:30pm, the Root Radical Lending Library will be presenting the second in our Readings at the Root series! Local author Matt Spencer will read from his new novel, The Trail of the Beast, a dark fantasy/thriller. Readings at the Root occur quarterly and coincide with the First Friday Gallery Walk in Brattleboro. These events are designed to highlight and promote the work of local authors from the Brattleboro area community. We hope you make this part of your Gallery Walk plans, and drop on by the library!
